A Japanese matchlock rifle
19th century
The 40 3/4 inch octagonal barrel .58 caliber barrel inlaid in front of the rear sight with an engraved silver dragon amongst brass clouds, the breech further inlaid with brass clouds. Brass lock of typical form. Full stock with engraved blossom-form mounts, an engraved brass panel in the form of a fu dog on the right side of the butt and a small inscribed panel on the butt. No ramrod.
Condition: Very good. Barrel with dark patina showing areas of light pitting. Fine wood with few minor marks.
