A U.S. Model 1841 percussion rifle by Tryon with interesting Gold Rush-era California markings
The 33 inch .54 caliber barrel with open rear sight and no visible markings. Lockplate with faint Tryon markings and date 1847. Brass furniture of standard pattern, the forward barrel band an incorrect iron replacement, the patchbox deeply stamped George Wilson/California/1849. Walnut stock.
Condition: Poor to fair. Barrel and lock with dark patina, areas of pitting and considerable wear to markings. No apparent rifling. Stock showing numerous marks, shortened at fore-end, cracks at counterplate, large chip at rear of lock and smaller chip at buttplate.
