A scarce .44 caliber Remington New Model revolving percussion rifle
Serial no. 243, .44 caliber. 24 inch part round/part octagonal barrel marked Patented Sept. 14, 1854/Remington & Sons Ilion, New York U.S.A./New Model; German silver fore-sight, folding two-leaf adjustable aperture rear sight. Brass triggerguard and buttplate. Oil-finished walnut stock with checkered panels at wrist.
Condition: Very good. Barrel, frame and cylinder with mottled brown patina showing some light pitting. Loading lever retains much blued finish. Triggerguard and buttplate with generous traces of unpolished silver plating. Clean wood with very few light marks and some minor chipping around upper tang; checkering possibly non-factory.
