A Model 1842 Palmetto Armory percussion musket with Confederate linen sling
The 42 inch .69 caliber smoothbore barrel with bayonet lug on top behind muzzle, breech with faint marks P/V over palmetto tree, the left flat marked Wm. Glaze & Co. Lockplate with standard Palmetto Armory markings and date 1852. Brass barrel bands. Iron triggerguard and buttplate, the latter marked SC. Oil-finished walnut stock, left side of buttplate lightly but neatly incised W.C. Oliver/Co. F. Incorrect ramrod. Fitted with Confederate linen sling.
Condition: Very good. Metal with dark grey patina with considerable pitting at breech of barrel. Lockplate with smooth metal and clear markings. Generally clean wood showing scattered small marks, deep bruises at left front of fore-end and behind the counterplate, small crack at rear counterplate screw, worn losses under hammer, chipping at rear of lock and a hairline crack to the belly in front of the buttplate. Sling showing wear and some staining and some losses to leather.
