An early Federal Period infantry officer's saber
Curved 25 1/4 inch single edged blade with broad central fuller and short fuller below the spine; spine marked Wilhem Tesche Peters Sohn In Solingen Fecit; forte engraved on both sides with panels of scrollwork and with simple Federal eagles. Iron stirrup hilt with faceted back strap and knucklebow and flat capstan pommel, similar to the British light cavalry saber of the period. Spirally fluted wooden grip. Complete with original brown leather scabbard having simple iron throat and tip, the former fitted with suspension ring and probably missing the frog stud.
Condition: Blade with sharp markings and engraving and showing some very minor pitting and few minor nicks to edge. Hilt with smooth dark metal. Grip with hairline cracks and one chip below the pommel. Scabbard scuffed but sound.
