An American eagle pommel infantry officer's saber
English for the American market, circa 1815-30
Curved 28 1/2 inch blade with broad, shallow fuller, the lower 10 inches with blued and gilt panel engraved with small panels of conventional motifs. Brass stirrup hilt comprising: shield-shaped languets molded with the Federal eagle; scrolling knucklebow with heart-shaped piercing; ferrule molded with laurel; Ketland-style pommel with integral feathered backstrap. Ribbed ivory grip.
Condition: Blade showing scattered minor pitting, the blued decoration very worn. Hilt retains slight traces of silver-plated finish. Grip with repaired cracks.
