Comprising: 1) Retailed by G.F. Foster Son & Co., Chicago, Ill.; 30 inch blade with 13 inch etched panel; hilt and scabbard of standard pattern. 2) 30 inch blade of diamond section with 16 inch etched panel, ricasso marked Pettibone/MFG. Co./Cincinnati/Ohio; variant hilt with scrolling shell, the knucklebow molded with acanthus; black leather and beaded wire-wrapped grip; nickeled scabbard. 3) Example retailed by J.H. Litchfield & Co. of San Francisco; 30 inch blade with 16 inch panel etched with conventional motifs; brass hilt of standard pattern, the grip wrapped in shagreen and copper wire; nickeled scabbard.
Condition: 1) Blade with dark grey patina and areas of light pitting; hilt with dark patina, counterguard missing button; grip with light wear; scabbard with dark patina and one small dent. 2) Fine blade showing some light spotting; grip with minor scuffing; renickeled scabbard. 3) Blade with grey metal showing some minor pitting; hilt with dark patina, the knucklebow bent; grip with moderate wear; scabbard with dark patina retaining 60% of degraded finish.
