A deluxe presentation U.S. Model 1860 staff & field officer's sword
Retailed by Pollard & Leighton of Boston, Massachusetts; 32 inch blade of diamond section with 14 inch panel etched with florals and inscription Capt. Thomas Decatur, and engraved with Chatellerault maker. Gilt brass hilt of standard pattern, the underside of the counterguard with French maker's stamp for Francois Delacour & Backes. White shagreen and copper wire-wrapped grip. Blued steel scabbard with pierced brass hilts, the throat inscribed Presented To/Capt. Thomas Decatur/by the/Roxbury Horse Guards/August 3, 1870.
Condition: Blade with some scattered light spotting. Hilt retains much gilt finish. Grip with some losses to shagreen. Scabbard retains generous traces of blue finish showing patches of heavy spotting.
