A scarce Sons of Veterans of the Civil War sword
fourth quarter 19th century
Narrow 30 inch blade of diamond section, the ricasso marked Marvin E. Hall/Hillsdale/Mich. Brass hilt of Model 1860 type without counterguard, the shell molded with the organizations insignia. Black leather and brass wire-wrapped grip. Three-ring scabbard, the gilt brass mounts molded with scrollwork.
Condition: Blade with smooth, grey metal. Hilt with slight traces of gilt finish. Grip with slight losses to leather. Scabbard with dark patina, the mounts retaining generous traces of gilding.
