Bonhams 1793 : A silver-mounted French hunting sword

Straight 18 3/4 inch single edged blade bearing traces of engraved decoration above the hilt. Hilt comprised of scrolling silver guard, banded silver ferrule, ebony bird's head grip set with engraved silver spine and inserts and oval silver panels engraved with baskets of flowers. Pommel with loop for chain guard, now missing, the other loop crushed.
Condition: Blade showing areas of light pitting and wear to decoration. Hilt fine, silver with unpolished patina, guard with some dents and small tear a guard loop.
