An Indian saber
late 18th century
Curved 28 inch blade of oval section. Gilt brass one-piece hilt engraved overall with floral meander, the pommel in the form of a leopard's head, the knucklebow a rabbit fleeing from the panther. Black leather-covered scabbard.
Condition: Blade, cleaned at one time, with a smooth grey patina showing scattered scratches and areas of light pitting. Hilt retains nearly all the gilt finish. Scabbard with areas of surface scuffing but very sound.
