A Sumatran short sword, pedang
19th century
With slightly curved 18 1/4 inch pattern welded blade with matte, dark grey patina. Buffalo horn grip carved as a stylized lion's head with inlaid eyes. Ebonized wooden scabbard with horn throat and silver chape embossed with scrollwork.
Condition: Blade with dark patina and some minor frittering to edge. Hilt with some chipping and hairline crack. Repainted scabbard, the chape with a piece missing to either side.
