The sculpture depicts a mythological Tiwi ancestor, Bima, a significant figure in the Tiwi Purkumani funeral ceremony. The design on the carving is unique and traditional, and is characterized by various lines and dots which have important meaning.

Puruntatameri has widely exhibited both in Australia and Europe and is represented in the Museum of Victoria in Melbourne, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, National Maritime Museum, Sydney.
