Footnotes

  • Both Giacomo Zoffoli (Italian, 1731-1785) and Francesco Righetti (Italian, 1749-1819) produced reductions in bronze of this figure after the antique marble discovered in 1750. Both oversaw workshops producing large numbers of reductions in bronze of classical pieces during the late 18th century including figural groups, busts, vases and fountains. Zoffoli's catalogue lists a reduction of the Antinous and the price: 'l'Antinoo di Campidoglio pour 15 zecchini romani'.

A signed reduction by Zoffoli was sold in the Sylvia Adams Collection, Philips, London, May 1996, lot 50.
