A massive famille verte enameled porcelain deep bowl with figural decoration
Kangxi period
Thickly potted and richly decorated with phoenix reserves in a diapered band to the inside rim and a figural roundel across the floor of a man, wife and servant watching the flight of a phoenix; the exterior banded at the rim and around the tall foot while an elaborate narrative unfolds around the walls illustrating a number of incidents of an emperor enjoying a musical recital to the right of an empress or imperial concubine and attendants leaving a palace compound; the recessed base painted in underglaze blue with a square maker's mark enclosed by a double ring.
