CODY, WILLIAM F. 1846-1917.
Autograph Letter Signed ("W.F. Cody"), 3 pp, 8vo, Worcester, MA, June 30, 1907, to Joseph McCaddon, on letterhead of Bay State House hotel, asking for a loan of $40,000 using his Wyoming property as collateral, very light thumbing, matted and framed to 37 1/2 x 38 inches.
Cody writes to his financial advisor: "I have been thinking of something ... how to get over my financial trouble without having to go west myself. My beautiful grand hotel at Cody, including the six lots value at $100,000. The hotel is clearing $1000 a month. I have a mortgage on it but if Mrs. Bailey would loan me say 40,000 ... for one year on this property I could pay off the mortgage and have enough left to meet my other obligations...." Mrs. Bailey is likely Ruth McCaddon Bailey, widow of Cody's business partner (and Barnum and Bailey circus owner) James A. Bailey.
