MUGNAINI, JOE. 1912-1992.
Acrylic on masonite, 38 x 30 inches, unsigned, [c.1954], framed, some stray marks, wear around edges.
Mugnaini is most known for his illustrations for science fiction author Ray Bradbury and this painting has an element of fantasy about it. A museum label on the verso gives the title as "Sandwich Man" as the painting depicts a man walking with a sandwich board before and aft, all the characters on the street with dark, slightly off-kilter faces. The label, which is partial, was for an unidentified Pasadena institution.
