Provenance: Albert Ehrman [1890-1969], English diamond merchant who assembled the Broxbourne Library (anonymous bookplate); purchased from Thomas Thorpe on January 8, 1980.
LIMITED EDITION on large paper, no 57 of 75 copies, with AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED ("Frank Brangwyn") tipped in. The letter, dated June 2, 1919, reads in part: "Re the book plates I am always game to make a book plate, in fact I am forming a society and we will publish a quarterly magazine.... Would you join it? The magazine is worth the money, and you can exchange your book plates with other members, that is if you are an ex libris collector?" Brangwyn designed over 130 bookplates.
