Lot Details
LONDON, JACK AND CHARMIAN. LONDON, JACK AND CHARMIAN. LONDON, JACK AND CHARMIAN.
LONDON, JACK AND CHARMIAN.
Archive of photographs and letters sent from Charmian and Jack London to Carrie London, a.k.a. Mrs Jack J London of London, England. 18 items, various places, 1915-1934, comprising: 1 photograph signed by Jack London, 2 photographs signed by Charmian and Jack London, 1 photograph signed by Charmian London, 3 photographs inscribed by Charmian London, 2 additional photographs, 9 letters by Charmian (33 pp, 2 autograph letters (one incomplete), 4 typed letters and 3 autograph postcards). Overall in excellent condition, the Jack London signed photograph a bit faded and creased.

Charming small archive of correspondence from one Mrs Jack London to another; Charmian refers to Carrie as her "namesake." It appears the two women met in the teens and kept up a correspondence for about two decades. The letters are long and chatty, full of reflections on life at the ranch ("I send you a snapshot of my tiny Isle of Jersey cows. The other day, out of 10 lbs. of cream we made 10 lbs. of butter! Beat that if you can!!") and also WWI ("Jack swears solemnly that if the time comes (and he does not believe it will come) that the 'Germans are winning' that rather than live in a world dominated by them, he will fight and die in the trenches with the British!"), women's suffrage, Jack's death, the children, and their busy lives and travels ("It reminds me of the way Jack lived his life—never a moment lost, never an impulse misplaced, and so forth and so on").
