Original black cloth lettered in red, top edge red, dust jacket. Some rubbing and shelfwear to boards, newspaper portrait of Gardner affixed to front pastedown, jacket rubbed with a few creases, tears and chips, chip to head of spine with loss of "The" in title.

Second printing of the third Perry Mason novel, SIGNED AND INSCRIBED by Gardner on the front free endpaper: "To Tee Rose / Violets blush unseen - what does a rose do when it blushes? I hate to let you see the jacket, they're so inferior to the Tee'sers - But - read it 'n weep. / You're a darling anyway / Erle."
