12 volumes. 8vo (205 x 133 mm). Title pages printed in red and black. 24 photogravure plates with captioned tissue guards. Half red morocco and marbled boards by Bayntun, raised bands, spine compartments ruled and lettered in gilt, top edge gilt, marbled endpapers. Small, pale dampstain to blank upper margin of small section of Stark Monroe, upper cover of Adventures of Sherlock Holmes lacking, some rubbing to joints and extremities, a few joints tender.

LIMITED EDITION, SIGNED by Doyle on the limitation page at the front of The White Company, No 814 of 1000 copies. "Author's edition." "510 sets were bound by Smith, Elder and Company. The remaining 490 quires were passed to John Murray when the company was sold; they were reissued with new title-pages dated 1903 in and after 1917." Green & Gibson A60.
