1. Autograph Note Signed ("T. Hardy."), 1 p, oblong 8vo (integral blank), Max Gate, Dorchester, March 25, 1909, to Mr. Bankes, on personal letterhead, mounted and toned.
In full: "I am glad to have the copy of your little play, which I did not know were printed. I shall read it with pleasure. I hope you did not get wet."
2. Woodburytype Photograph of Hardy, 9 1/2 x 7 inches, original mount, by Herbert Rose Barraud [1845-1896]. In his biography, Martin Seymour-Smith describes this portrait as "perhaps the most eloquent of all the photographs taken of Hardy." From Men and Women of the Day, 1889.
