2 volumes. 8vo (189 x 119 & 181 x 119 mm). [12], 192; [12], 224, [4] pp. Half-titles. Frontispiece in each volume and illustrations throughout by John Tenniel. Pictorial crimson levant morocco by Zaehnsdorf, raised bands, gilt spine titles, gilt geometric design in spine panels mirrored and enlarged on covers with gilt figure of the White Rabbit at center, gilt turn-ins, silk endpapers, a.e.g., original gilt cloth covers bound in. Short tear to top edge of half-title and tiny tears to a few edges (some neatly repaired), chip to blank outer margin of one leaf, and light finger soiling to prelims of Alice's Adventures, light rubbing at joints, one corner slightly worn.
Provenance: estate of Red Skelton; sold to benefit the Highland Hall Waldorf School.

FIRST PUBLISHED EDITION of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, earliest state with inverted 'S' in last line of contents page, and first edition, first issue of Through the Looking Glass, with "wade" on page 21. Original covers of both volumes bound in.
