Folio (395 x 255 mm). 2A12 2B10 A-L8 2A-Q8 R6 22A-2S8 2T6 3A-3K8 3L10 32A-2O8 3M2 (-2A1-12, 3M1-2). Black letter, double column. 3 part-titles in Old Testament each with historiated woodcut borders, New Testament title within broad woodcut border with angel supporters and Elizabeth I. Period calf, rebacked in early 19th century. Lacking 14 leaves at beginning and end including general title (this supplied in facsimile), finger-soiling, occasional dampstains, several tears sometimes touching text but without loss of printed area, first gathering with headlines shaved, 3 gatherings slightly sprung, binding rubbed, joints cracking at heads.
Provenance: a few period marginalia; Foljambe family (ownership inscriptions and bookplate of Thomas Foljambe, family register on verso of NT title from 1805-1889); Herbert Watney, of Buckhold [1843-1932] (bookplate); Ralph Ewart Ford, of Orpington [1897-1974], noted Bible collector and with his brother the editor of the so-called Letchworth Version (bookplate).

A good, tall copy of the Great Bible, one of two folio editions published in response to the 1559 Injunction of Queen Elizabeth ordering copies of this Bible to be set up in churches. Herbert 119; STC 2098.
