HAUER, JOHANN THOMAS. 1748-1820.
Desseins de la mode neuve au gout antique pour les architects en general et specialement pour servir a divers artisans. Paris: J. Hauer, [c.1780].
Folio (310 x 220 mm and smaller). Collection of 112 engraved plates, loose or stitched in fours as issued, in modern cloth portfolio. Light dust-soiling, a few with waterstains, 3 tipped onto leaves.
Hauer published these designs in cahiers of four plates each, with an inconsistent numbering scheme; as a result there seems to be no complete exemplar. The largest set located by Guilmard included 81 prints, one of which was numbered 349, and the present group does appear to lack several plates. Berlin Katalog 189; Guilmard pp 458-459 ("les productions de cet artiste ... ne manquent pas d'un certain cachet").
