A few plates working loose, first 3 leaves strengthened at gutter, ink inventory number on verso of half-title and one tissue-guard, and one similar pencil mark erased.

FIRST EDITION of this rare photographically-illustrated work. "By the aid of good Photographic pictures, we become almost as well acquainted with the scenery and buildings of a country as if we had travelled through it.... The artist, Captain Scott, has long relieved the monotony of Indian life [whilst serving in the Madras Artillery] by use of his camera in that country" (Weld, introduction).
