FIRST EDITION of this rare photographically-illustrated work. "By the aid of good Photographic pictures, we become almost as well acquainted with the scenery and buildings of a country as if we had travelled through it.... The artist, Captain Scott, has long relieved the monotony of Indian life [whilst serving in the Madras Artillery] by use of his camera in that country" (Weld, introduction).
Images comprise: scenery and antiquities at Golconda, near Hyderabad, Deccan (12); miscellaneous tombs and temples (7); views at Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and their vicinity (15); sketches illustrating English life in India (14); sketches of native character, portraits of noblemen, etc. (49).
