MOTORINGALBUMS.
A pair of albums, containing upwards of 350 photographs, gelatin silver prints (most around 3 x 5 inches, but many larger or smaller), late 1920s, some captioned below in white ink, oblong 4to, original suede.
Assembled by a William Allen who seems to have served with one of the British Army's Armoured Car Companies. The albums depict mostly family and army life at Kasauli (Himachal Pradesh), Ahmednagar (Maharashtra), Delhi, and elsewhere, as well as notable events such as probably the inauguration of the Council House in New Delhi in 1927. There is a particular focus on automobiles and airplanes, including: a c.1915-18 40/50hp Rolls Royce Silver Ghost serving as a troop carrier (3 images, one a close-up of the engine); a biplane at the Air Force landing ground at Ahmednagar in 1929; military parades at Delhi for the King's Birthday in 1926, including a display of Crossley IGA1 armored cars; IGA1s in Lahore in 1925; 2 panoramic views of assembled IGA1s in Delhi; a Hispano-Suiza; Imperial Airways DH66 Hercules G-EBMX soon after her arrival in Delhi in January of 1927.
