2 parts bound in one volume. Folio (660 x 480 mm). [vi], [ii] pp. 26 tinted lithographed plates by J.D. Harding after C.S. Hardinge each with accompanying letterpress description. Period half morocco, upper cover gilt lettered. Several plates with light arcs of waterstaining at corners, rebacked, lightly rubbed.

FIRST EDITION. The work is divided into two parts: British India and the Punjab, and Kashmir and the Alpine Punjab. Hardinge was present in India in 1845 when the Sikh army crossed the Sutlej and invaded British territory. He served as private secretary to his father, Sir Henry Hardinge, first Viscount of Lahore, who was Governor-General of India at the time.
The plates are mostly fine views, but also include portraits of the Maharajah Dulip Singh, Rajah Lal Sing, Gulab Sing, and Sheik Imam-ud-Din Runjur Sing. Abbey Travel 472; Tooley 244.
