Album containing 20 photographs of the Patiala Championship Dog Show, mounted gelatin silver prints by Devare & Co. of Bombay, printed captions below, each 3½ x 5 inches, 1926, oblong 8vo, original gilt-lettered morocco, rebacked, rubbed, a few leaves working loose.
An intriguing picture of life in British India, including images of: the Show Grounds with English Kennel Club Judge Mr. Holland Buckley eliminating in the Grand Challenge Class; the Maharaja of Jind gathering a retrieve; Maharaja of Patiala likewise; Mr. Holland Buckley deciding best gundog; ditto, best Chow bitch; preparing for the Patiala Coursing; Mrs. Hewett (in full flapper attire) with her Great Dane; spectators on elephants. The Maharaja of Patiala was a noted dog-fancier, with 95 royal dogs, three English trainers, a dog hospital with three wards and an operating theater, and kennels furnished with electric light.
