[BEATO, FELICE. 1832-1909.]
Panorama of Lucknow taken from the Kaiserbagh, 6 lightly albumenized prints joined, each 10 x 12 inches, 1858, captioned on verso in ink and with several sites identified in pencil on verso, separation at 3 folds but with little if any loss.
Provenance: likely purchased by W.J.H. in India in 1858; with Maggs, December, 1959; thence by descent.
The Kaiserbagh was the palace of the King of Oudh, and a symbolic stronghold of the mutineers, many of whom had originally been recruited by the British from among the former army of the state of Oudh. The palace was recaptured by Sir Colin Campbell on March 14, 1858.
