Album containing 44 fine watercolor sketches and 74 albumen print photographs, the sketches 140 x 240 mm and smaller, the photographs mostly cartes-de-visite, generally captioned below in ink, 4to, c.1866, period quarter morocco, rebacked.
Album compiled probably by a William Long of the 46th (South Devonshire) Regiment of Foot. Watercolors include: the Begum Serai, Lucknow, mess-house of the Regiment; Long's bungalow; horses; native types; Long's tent; the Stone Bridge at Lucknow; acrobats; the late King of Oudh, Wajid Ali Shah, and several other portraits of rulers and members of their harems; the King's elephant; a bullock gharry; a camel sowar. Photographs depict: Lucknow (numerous); Cawnpore; Taj Mahal; nautch girls; the Supreme Indian Council, Simla, 1864, by Bourne and Shepherd.
