LOUIS XV, LOUIS XVI, AND MARIE ANTOINETTE.
MARRIAGE CONTRACT SIGNED BY FRENCH ROYALTY.
Document Signed ("Louis," "Louis Auguste," "Marie Antoinette," and others) in French, 31 pp recto and verso, folio, Versailles, August 10, 1771, being a marriage contract between the Duc de Villequier and Mademoiselle de Mazade, also signed by members of both families, leaves toned and thumbed, bound in full crimson levant morocco, covers gilt decorated with double fillet panel surrounding intricate floral and foliate panel, fleur-de-lys at each corner, upper cover gilt-lettered, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, gilt dentelles, gray moire silk endpapers, by Cuneo. Upper cover detached after free endpaper.

A beautiful example of an 18th century marriage contract between aristocrats, this document is also signed by LOUIS XVIII, PRINCESS MARIE JOSEPHINE, CHARLES X, PRINCESS MARIE ADELAIDE, PRINCESS ELIZABETH MARIE, and other nobles at Versailles. The groom is Louis Alexandre Celeste Aumont [1736-1814], descendant of an ancient family whose service to the king can be traced to the Crusades, and himself a decorated member of the royal cavalry. The bride, Antoinette Marguerite Henriette de Mazade, was the young daughter of a rich financier who makes very generous provisions for his daughter and son-in-law in this document.
