During the 1860s-70s, under the directorship of Edward C. Moore, many of the designs produced by Tiffany & Co. reflected a decidedly Eastern influence. While the Japanese aesthetic was widely interpolated into Moore's work of this period, we also see translations of the forms and ornament of the Near East, known within the firm as the "Moresque Style". The floral and foliate aspects on the piece offered here have been stylized to the degree of becoming a symmetric pattern held within regular lunette bands, relating to Islamic metalwork.
