Footnotes

  • The coat of arms featured on this pitcher indicates it belonged to a member of the branch of the Moore family that immigrated to America, descended from Sir Henry-Francis-Seymour Moore, the sixth Earl of Drogheda. Henry was a distinguished soldier and politician. In 1791 he was created Marquess of Drogheda in the Peerage of Ireland. He was subsequently made Baron Moore, of Moore Place in the County of Kent, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom in 1801, which entitled him to a seat in the English House of Lords.
