The earthenware incense burner modeled to resemble two handscrolls back to back, the vessel supported on tripod feet and decorated in polychrome enamels and gilt over a clear, crackled glaze with central reserves of hollyhock crests of the Tokugawa family against scrolling vines, the 'exterior' of the scrolls painted with lozenge designs; fitted with a silver cover pierced with chrysanthemums and decorated with a hollyhock crest in repousse
