1936 Spanish Trail 50C MS66 PCGS
Blended gold and russet iridescence on highly lustrous surfaces. Issued to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the expedition of Cabeza de Vaca through territory which now comprises the states of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. The designs were created by L.W. Hoffacker of El Paso who was a well-known coin dealer and numismatist of the era; his laurels eventually included a stint as president of the American Numismatic Association, circa 1939-1941. The artist Edmund J. Senn created models from Hoffacker's designs. Housed in an early green label holder. (PCGS 9376)
