A large tooled leather panel with gilt and red lacquer decoration
Late Qing/Republic period
Of rectangular form displaying lion dogs playing with ribbons extending from an embroidered ball in a roundel and four bats at the corners surrounded by a strap-work border and a diapered band with reserves of auspicious symbols, the tooled designs picked out in gilt lacquer against red lacquer that covers the pieced leather ground (wear, losses, cracks); now attached to a pressed wood board.
