A carved cinnabar lacquer circular lidded box
Late Qing dynasty
Of compressed circular form, the center of the lid carved in relief depicting a figural tableau of scholars enjoying erudite activities in a garden vista above convex sides covered in a dense vine and lotus ground surrounding five figural reserves, all supported by a raised foot incised with a leiwen band, the recessed base and interior surfaces covered in plain black lacquer (losses to some surfaces).
