A Canton enamel bowl with large coral branch
Late Qing dynasty
Cast in half-moon section atop a waisted base with a fluted apron around the foot rim, the exterior sides decorated with the Eight Auspicious Objects (Ba Jixiang) on a turquoise ground of multi-hued vine and lotus motifs above the base enameled in faux-bois brown with leiwen embellishments in gilt (losses and repairs to enamels), the bowl supporting a tall, multi-limbed branch of coral (losses).
