Anonymous (18th/19th century)
A Buddhist fresco
Ink and color on plaster, now framed and glazed; depicting a Buddha figure seated on a double-lotus pedestal against a mandorla decorated with a cloud pattern, his hands possibly in the vitarka mudra (hand gesture of discussion), the left hand holding a bowl, and with female worshippers and attendants on either side proffering gifts including books, scrolls, vases, incense, and flowers, against a landscape background of rocks, vegetation and scattered clouds.
