Anonymous (Qing dynasty)
A group of seven Imperial Edicts and Edict Fragments
Ink and color on silk brocade, mounted as hand scrolls; one dated Shunzhi ba nian (1651), one dated Kangxi liu nian (1667), one dated Jiaqing shishi nian (1809), one dated Daoguang er nian (1822), one with three dates of Tongzhi si nian, Tongzhi shi er nian and Guangxu shi liu nian (1865, 1873, and 1890), together with one bearing a date reading Kangxi shi shi nian (1675) and one bearing a date reading Yongzheng shi san nian (1735), each with text reading from left to right in Manchu characters and repeated from right to left in Chinese characters, the Chinese text opening with the woven characters Fengtian Gaomin (By command of Heaven) flanked by two dragons, followed by text in black or colored ink, with two large seal impressions containing Manchu and Chinese characters (stains, fraying, fading, tears, repairs).
