An unusual bird-shaped stoneware jar with suffused brown glaze
Tang dynasty
The jar of compressed globular shape with flared rim to the short neck applied with a goose's head, wings and tail feathers on the shoulder and covered in a translucent brown glaze highlighted with opaque splashes of mottled blue and white, the glaze stopping irregularly above the short foot finished with a flat base (repaired).
