An impressive late 18th/early 19th century Italian silver coffee pot,
maker's mark possibly "M22P" for Mateo Pelosi in lozenge punch, Rome
The large ovoid body embossed with double flutes and the upper section with a collar of acanthus leaves on a stippled ground, narrow waisted neck with an applied girdle of chain-work, the side opening domed cover with chased decoration and having a cast finial depicting a seated cherub and a rearing goat, ebonised handle with cast acanthus leaf junctions, part-fluted spout with cast and chased with bachanal mask within fruiting fine tendrils, raised in a circular foot, height 37cm, total weight 43.36oz.
