The rectangular hinged and sliding top with three-quarter gallery and hinged sloping tooled leather writing surface enclosing two short frieze drawers and two simulated drawers, with stationery drawer to the side, above a panelled slide and three long graduated drawers, on lobed bun feet, with pencil signature to the underside of an interior drawer, 'Isaac Bradshaw', with Bramah locks, 52cm wide, 57cm deep, 87cm high (20" wide, 22" deep, 34" high).

  • Isaac Bradshaw was listed in the Gillows Purchase Ledger accounts 1834-39 (344/79, pp.266, 294-99). He made a mahogany portfolio stand for Ferguson & Co.'s customer Lord Clare in April 1839 (344/104, p.5255, 21.4.1829). He was probably the Isaac Bradshaw who was apprenticed to John Battersby in 1826. See S. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840, p.221.
