An early 19th century bronze ewer
after Sigisbert-Francois Michel (1728-1811)
Surmounted by a satyr embracing the neck and with a goat mask to the front issuing vine swags, the reeded and fluted stem headed by a laurel garland, on a square plinth, 19cm wide, 44cm high (7" wide, 17" high).

  • Models of this ewer were supplied to the Wedgwood factory by John Flaxman snr in 1775, but the original designs were probably copied or cast from models by Claude Michel Clodion (1738-1814), who possibly derived them from a model by Sigisbert-François Michel (1728-1811).
