A Regency pollard oak, oak and holly cheval firescreen
by George Bullock
With a central panel and two sliding panels within a line inlaid frame surmounted by an arched cresting inlaid with scrolling foliate and flowerhead marquetry flanked by roundel finials, on downswept arched legs and castors, 113.5cm wide, 135.5cm high (44.5" wide, 53" high).

    Originally supplied for Dining-Room at Great Tew Park, the invoice of 1817 records '1 Rich Oak Sliding Fire Screen richly inlaid with Holly with three Sliding panels in Crimson cloth £16'.

    The marquetry pattern for the above lot is amongst those 'Bullock' tracings in the collection of Birmingham City Art Gallery, and relates to other Bullock designed pieces see C. Wainwright et al., George Bullock, Cabinet-Maker, London, 1988, p. 38, fig. 11).
