Footnotes

  • The combination of the milled gilt-brass mounts and gilt-brass pierced gallery relate to documented examples of furniture by the London cabinet-makers J. McLean & Son, illustrated in Christopher Gilbert, Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture, 1996, pp. 314-315, pls. 593, 595 and 597. However the distinctive carved and turned legs here are not paralleled on any of McLean's known furniture (see S.Redburn, John McLean and Son, Furniture History 1978, pls. 32a-45b).
