attributed to Gillows
The gadroon moulded cornice with intertwined ivy leaf decoration above a beaded frieze and an oak leaf and acorn decorated running trellis motif and centred to the front by an en-grisaille panel of frolicking putti, on square section rear posts and carved acanthus reeded turned baluster posts to the front terminating in block supports, with a slatted base, the slats of later date, with an associated later headboard and later fixings for hangings, with an old inventory label to the cornice for Frederick Fish and Sons, Ipswich and inscribed in pen 'R.Cawley', 204cm wide, 250cm deep, 224cm high (80" wide, 98" deep, 88" high).

    A design corresponding to the pattern used here appear in a drawing in the Gillows Coloured Sketch Book circa 1790 which is reproduced in S.Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London, 1730-1840, Suffolk, 2008, vol.1, p.343, pl.399. Related posts appear on the bed thought to have been supplied to Williams Hasell in 1774 and illustrated in S.Stuart, ibid.,p.341, pl.394a. Gillows were known to have occasionally used fustic for cabinetwork, ibid., p.148.

VAT at 20% will be payable on the amount of the premium.
