Footnotes

  • In the late 1860s, W. B. Simpson & Sons (1833-present), became the sole agent for retailing Maw & Co. tiles in the London Postal District. A strengthening relationship between the two firms saw decorative faience tiles and coloured enamel tiles being supplied where they could be retailed for a significant sum. Maw & Co. had a number of leading designers producing designs for them, including Walter Crane who produced tile designs for them from 1874.
