Walter Gilbert, thence by family descent

Walter Gilbert (1871-1946) was a founding member of the Bromsgrove Guild in 1898. Whilst at the Guild he frequently worked with the Swiss sculptor Louis Weingartner, concentrating on works in metal. Their public works include the gates to the Victoria Memorial and gates of Buckingham Palace.

In 1927, the February issue of 'Architectural Review' featured the Fawn and Leverets sculptures in an article on the garden of Mr F Tillotson, Hillside, Heaton, Lancashire. Other works of their garden statuary can be seen in Gilbert and Weingartner's 'Sculpture in the Garden'.
